BUKOWSKI FROM BEYOND

Directed by Leo Farley
Script adaptation by Leo Farley and Stephen Payne
September 11, 2005 - January 1, 2006
and June 29, 2009 for one night only!

SoHo Playhouse
15 Vandam Street
New York, NY 10012

LSMFT Productions, along with Soho Playhouse, presents the return of Bukowski from Beyond. The show brings the extraordinary writings and spirit of Charles Bukowski to the stage. As he did in 2000 in Charles Bukowski's South of No North, 29th Street Rep company member Steve Payne recreates his spell-binding portrayal of this notorious writer for a visceral evening of poetry and prose. ("Bukowski is played with acerbic intelligence and fond humor by Steve Payne." --The New Yorker

"Steve Payne plays Bukowski with an expresive mix of pleasure and sadness" The New York Times

THEATERMANIA REVIEW
THE VILLAGER REVIEW

“Farley’s staging is on-target and unobtrusive. He’s put a pianist, the talented and good-natured Carl Riehl, on stage to serve as an occasional accompanist and more frequent foil to Payne; it’s an in inspired touch. This is a sort-of workshop engagement of a piece that Farley and Payne have been developing for a while now. Its splendid and deserves a long life”
NYTheatre.com - Martin Denton - August 2005

“Adapted by Leo Farley and Steve Payne, this play lacks all the typical charm, action and sparkle that so often defines the theater, yet it somehow remains compelling, moving and at times disturbing.
Washington Square News - Issie Lapowsky - September 16, 2005

"Top 10 Off-Broadway plays of 2005!"
No. 10 “The immensely personal and riveting show “Bukowski from Beyond” brings to life the poetry of the late Charles Bukowski in a poignant poetry reading at the Soho Playhouse. This performance is unlike all other professional theater, wholly committing itself to the fundamentals of language and character study. Without the flashy hysterics of many Broadway and Off-Broadway plays, Bukowski from Beyond is still a theatrical masterpiece, Steve Payne masterfully portrays Bukowski’s nature as a man, and yet the true stars of this play are Bukowski’s poems, promising any audience member a unique and cherished experience in theater.”
Washington Square News - Issie Lapowsky -February 2006
